Our new service for 2008 - Made to measure box bases


For about the last six years, we, at French Beds of Oxford have been making made to measure box bases, solely, for sales of our own Antique French Beds

We now feel after repeated enquiries, that in some cases we can offer this service to others, and by using modern methods and materials we can bring these beautiful French antiques up to date, and at a proper and comfortable sleeping position.

The base frames we make are made in two sections for easy access to any size of house, and are constructed from 1 inch thick pine, with several cross supports, and topped with plywood.
The sections are then covered in a fire retardant Calico fabric, the cream colour of the fabric tends to blend in with most mattresses in the event of being on show, although in most cases, all is covered by a quilt.

As all French beds are of a different style, wooden battens need to be fitted to the side rail, and in some cases, if the rails are too delicate or decorative, we can set them on short legs for extra support, and to protect the side rails.
I hope these details have been of interest to you, and as I am repeatedly telling my customers, we are not dealing with new furniture, but lovely old and beautiful furniture, possibly 100 years old, but we must learn to adapt.
